Illustration Friday - "Sacrifice"

I've been so very, very busy recently and I've gotten very behind on sketchbooking and journaling.  Ick.  Anyways, finally got around to this week's Illo Friday theme, "sacrifice."  A wonderful theme, really, and it should be a wonderfully inspiring one at that.  Except it wasn't.  Mainly because I didn't want to do anything religious, and that's hard to do when the only ideas coming to you are religious.  Eventually, this came out:

Basically, I was thinking about sacrifice, and for some reason Cinderella came to mind.  In a simple interpretation, Cinderella can be seen as a story of the merits of selflessness and sacrifice.  I.e., good things come to those who wait...and wait....and wait.  So, I decided I wanted to do that.  Then, I was listening to some Wallflowers and their amazingly wonderful and delicious song "One Headlight."  Which, of course, mentions Cinderella and has beautiful lyrics which have, coincidentally, to do with sacrifice.  Yeah, so ^that's what came out...I like it all right.  The text in the back is from "One Headlight" by the fabulously brilliant Wallflowers.  Phew.

Hopefully I'll be doing a lot more sketchbooking and more updates.

In the meantime, I have to get my wisdom teeth out soon.

Per usual, this has been X-posted to my website, AELI Studios.

So, I've finally gotten round to this week's Illustration Friday topic, "skyline."  I finally have replaced my tablet pen, so I did this one entirely al digital.  It kind of depicts my mood lately.  Words in the background are Bob Dylan's "Moonlight."  Don't know why I chose it, I just did.  I likes me some vector.

In other news, please go to the website and check out the store.  The hits have slowed down in the past week--wanna help an artist out? =)

Ah yes, Illustration Friday time again. This week's theme? "Sticky." Sketched the first thing that popped into my head. Pen and ink - color done digitallisciously!

Again, X-posted to my website, AELI Studios, in the blog.

Illustration Friday 3

Well, here's a sketch for Illustration Friday's "rain" theme. I wanted to do something with panels, and something in ink. It originally had three panels, but I didn't like the third and cropped it out. I am very blasé about this one. The forehead is wonky. Oh well, I guess it's not that obvious.

Anyway, if you couldn't tell, it has to do with death. If you don't get it, figure it out; it's not that difficult. =)

Also, I have a new website, AELI Studios. It has my professional and personal portfolio, a store (BUY THINGS), and a blog/sketchbook that may slowly replace this one. I will probably keep banana_fuzz up though, just because I like the name. =) Anyways, if you go to the website, make sure to take a second and click on a Google link (or ten) on the right side of the page...it helps me out a lot. =)

Illustration Friday 2

All right, so this is my second Illustration Friday piece--"dance" theme. It was a quick sketch, done with a Staedtler Pigment Liner (.05). Btw, if you're looking for an inking pen, Staedtlers are the way to go. Anyway, scanned and colored in Photoshop...words in the back are lyrics from PJ Harvey's "Dress." I was playing with proportion here, and I like the result.

Illustration Friday Theme: Jungle

Wednesday, June 14

I've been playing with colors in portraits. I don't know why. I did a twenty-minute self portrait today, based on one of my weird Hawaii photos in which I was licking my sister's face. Haha. Anyways, yeah, it was quick and easy, and it got me back into draw-mode, so good. It's not too great, but I'll forgive myself.

My face, at a really odd, unflattering angle...Collapse )

I have a headache.

Hola, compadres. I've created this journal, where I will be posting my art in an effort to keep my creative juices flowing over the summer, to give me something to do, and to keep me motivated. If you friend me, I'll friend you. My personal, life-related, friends-only journal is pinkpanther1129.
